Crab Soccer
GRADE
LEVELS: 1-6
EQUIPMENT:
Giant inflated ball
GAME
SETUP: Divide class into four equal teams. Set up square playing field in the gym (one team on each side of the gym).
Number each player on a team 1-4. (See Diagram)
GAME
PLAY: Students crab walk out into the play area using a crab walk and try to kick the giant soccer ball over the heads
of an opposing team. If the ball floats over, rolls over, or bounces over any teams’ goal line everyone gets a point,
except the team that got scored on. Goalies are only allowed to stand on their knees or use crab walk to block the ball. The
goalies cannot stand up. The players go out into the middle when the teacher calls out their number. If the teacher calls
out a three, then the three’s go out and the ones, twos, and fours stay and become goalies. Goalies cannot enter into
the play area, they must stay on the goal line. The team with the most goals at the end win.
VARIATIONS: The teacher
can use questions to determine who goes out into the middle. Example; What do you like more? Pizza, Spaghetti, or hamburgers?
If they choose Pizza, then that is when they go out. The older the kids the more options you can give them. Other variations
are calling out all boys, or all girls, eye color, hair color, birthday months, etc. The variations could be endless. Remember
when using options, tell them to keep their choice secret from their neighbor and to not tell them.
